Introduction: Australian backyards are at a premium for space, with smaller and smaller blocks. The rise in popularity of lockable outdoor storage cabinets is no surprise.
Outdoor storage is a tricky thing. For example, we have the option to use a lockable outdoor storage cabinet to store our lawn mower. We could easily get away with this, as it’s an obvious need, but I suspect that there may be other people who would prefer to use it in this way.
With that in mind, I decided to do some research into lockable outdoor storage cabinets and found two outstanding ones. I will focus on the former because of its superior features and ease of use, but the latter is still a very compelling option.
The one I will focus on is LockIt! (you can find it here) which has won many awards and is well known for its quality and craftsmanship. It’s also locked away so you don’t have access once it’s not in use (although you can always unlock it if you need to).
You can see that the box itself is beautifully designed with an interior divided into three parts: an exterior enclosure for your equipment (drum kit, lawn mower etc.), a section for your tools and then a small backspace where your stuff will go when lying flat. The exterior enclosure has a large opening around the outside of its perimeter allowing light to pass through from above, as well as being protected from dust by several layers of coverings including foam padding on all sides.

What to consider when choosing a lockable outdoor storage cabinet
What’s your style? Do you want a boxy, rustic type of storage cabinet that you can use to store tools, stuff, or just stuff? Or maybe you want a sleek, designer-styled cabinet that is built with the latest in modern design and technology?
If you want to try something new with your outdoor storage cabinet and don’t know where to start, here are some things to consider:
* The size: I know it might seem obvious, but there are two things about this decision – the size and the weight.
* Can the space be used for other purposes?
* What’s your budget?
* How often do you intend to use this cabinet? (Do you plan on it for a period of years or months?)
There are many different styles and sizes of garden storage furniture; you should be familiar with the physical and functional differences between them. The 5 basic types are:
- Container garden furniture
- Garden Bench
- Garden Table
- Garden Stool
- Lockable Outdoor Storage Cabinet
- Fixed Outdoor Storage Cabinet
A container garden furniture is simply a cabinet that has a lid which can be locked for easy access. Most of them are made from galvanized steel, but some are made from aluminum. Since they are fixed, it makes them more portable and can be taken on trips. All of them have interior compartments, which serve as storage units for tools and other outdoor items. Many people use these units to store gardening tools or gardening supplies while they’re not in use. Other people use them to store gardening equipment during the summer months when they’re not in use.
Container garden furniture is usually placed in an open field or yard, where it can be accessed with ease for both gardening and non-gardening purposes (assuming there’s no risk of theft).
The disadvantage with container garden furniture is that you need to find the perfect location for it. You also need to make sure the location is safe enough so that no one else could access your valuable goods without your knowledge or consent (or at least notice).
A common style of container garden furniture includes two doors – one on each side – with a handle on each side as well as a cupboard on the bottom of the cabinet door. The cupboard would hold some gardening tools such as shovels, pruners, etc., while other items such as seeds, fertilizer, pest control products, etc., might go into another compartment attached to the cupboard door via hangers (which could also be secured with screws).
Some manufacturers also offer an adjustable lid system called “bubble-locking” which allows you to adjust its height so that it fits perfectly onto your chosen location (for example: on a patio area) and also adjusts its angle if you want to place it at another angle such as against a wall or door frame so that it doesn’t interfere with any views or shadows your loved ones might have from outside their windows – keeping your guests safe from thieves!
In some cases, an indoor container garden furniture may be easier than an outdoor one since there’s less space needed for storage space when compared
Outdoor storage cabinets are not just for the winter. You want your furniture to be functional year-round, and that’s where outdoor storage comes in.
1) A home designed for storage, with a separate bathroom (or laundry facility) and a tidy garden;
2) A garage converted for storage (see Benchmade The Forge for a good example);
3) A shed;
4) An ute or SUV with a bed to sleep in (this is a great option if you have kids);
5) An Outback caravan;
One of the hottest commodities on the market is lockable storage cabinets. The number of people who want one is growing at an alarming rate. The following are just some of the reasons you might want one:
1.) To save money
2.) To store your garden tools and gardening equipment
3.) To keep your garden tools and garden equipment out of view if you don’t want them to be damaged.
4.) To protect your tools in extreme weather conditions (i.e. snow or ice).
5.) For those who love to cook, it allows you to keep food safe and tidy while preparing meals in your kitchen.
It’s not exactly the most sensitive topic, but I have to say that the best lockable outdoor storage cabinets would have to be a bit more bulky than what we actually need for our garden. It is said that the more you use something, the better it is. But this isn’t true in this case, because we are not using anything at all. We just want a storage cabinet that can store things without having to remove them from the ground every time we leave or go somewhere else.
One of my friends who lives on a farm in Australia has been using a lockable unit for years now, and it seems to work pretty well. But I had an easy-to-make and cheap solution which didn’t break down very often. Not sure if I would recommend it since they are expensive compared to other units, but they are very versatile:
The big draw of this unit is its ability to control the height of each shelf with two different height options (and with different levels of depth). The smaller one is designed specifically for storing small items off-ground so your plants don’t get damaged by it. This one is great for storing larger items (hats, gloves etc) that you don’t want to leave outside on a hike or when you go hiking overseas.
You could also add more shelves if you wanted to store bigger items such as lawn mowers or lawn furniture…
My only concern about this unit was that it was made from plastic and didn’t have any attractive colours or designs on it like these ones do:
The one thing I would change about these units is their price: I hate trying to convince people who don’t really need outdoor storage cabinets that they should buy them. They aren’t exactly cheap (especially considering how little space they take up), but I guess if you can afford them then why wouldn’t you? There are cheaper alternatives available and some people might be willing to sacrifice style just so they can fit lots of stuff into one space.
Measure the available space in your backyard
Shopping for an outdoor storage cabinet can be a confusing and difficult process. So, how do you pick one?
And how do you know if it is the right one for your needs?
If we pool our collective wisdom, here are some of the things that we think will help:
- Do you have enough space in your yard? If so, then maybe this is not the outdoor storage unit for you. If not, then maybe they are.
- Does it feel like quality? Is it heavy or light weight and easy to carry around? Is it sturdy and durable? Are there any strings attached (like a warranty)?
- Will you actually use all of those shelves and drawers that they claim to have (even if they are just a bunch of empty space)?
- What other things do you need to consider before purchasing an outdoor storage cabinet (such as hooking up power strips and extension cords)? How much extra effort does that cost (and can be avoided)?
- Can I keep track of which cabinets I have open at any given time? If so, then that is great; otherwise…
Failing any of these questions then there is no guarantee that the units you find will be suitable for your needs; but at least you’ll know where to start if necessary!
Consider the size of the items you need to store
There are over 2,000 garden storage cabinets available on the market in Australia.
The majority of these look pretty basic and come from a range of manufacturers. The budget-conscious collector may be happy with a cabinet without a lock, but lockable cabinets are a luxury and will cost more than standard garden storage.
Unless you have an outdoor space that is always full of leaves or other debris (a veritable forest) the chances of your cabinet being stolen are minimal.
It’s important to make sure yours is secure.
If you want to buy one, we recommend choosing one that comes with a lock, as this will add practical security and peace of mind to your purchase.
Lockable cabinets don’t need to be expensive, however; they can actually be quite affordable if you shop around.
You should also consider whether you need a cabinet that is specifically for your garden or not (otherwise known as versatility).
All models must comply with Australian standards so double check the specifications before buying if necessary.
I think this is a good question for the next batch of web designers to ask. I’ve been a client of several Lockable storage cabinets over the years, and have always been pleased with their quality, price, and service. The one we use most often is the Lockable Garden Cabinet from Rinehart. It’s not just that its price is very competitive with other garden storage units on the market – it’s also that the build quality is extremely high.
It takes three days or less to assemble – no glue or screws to worry about, just drop in bolts, nuts and washers. Rinehart has excellent customer support – their 8:00AM-5:30PM Australian Eastern Standard Time business hours are great for getting your questions answered quickly and efficiently.
I don’t know if there are any other companies out there that offer this level of customer service in an online store like theirs, but it would be nice to know if there are others out there doing so as well.
I think you should definitely check out e-Logic Garden Storage Cabinets when you get a chance (and don’t forget to let me know what you think about them). Their garden cabinet looks pretty much identical to the Rinehart model (and they have all kinds of accessories), but at a much more affordable price point than any other supplier I can find (I paid $30 for mine).
Choose a location that is convenient for you
The next time you are strolling in your backyard, can you spot a storage cabinet? If not, it is because there aren’t many.
Yes, it is a storage cabinet. However, there are other outdoor storage cabinets out there. They’re extremely useful for all sorts of things – from storing your beer to keeping your swimming trunks dry. And they’re all extremely expensive.
So if you have the money, why use the cheap one at all?
A lot of people don’t have the money to pay thousands of dollars to keep their beer cold or swimwear dry. We do.
So if you have the money and need a lockable outdoor storage cabinet, we suggest this one:
We believe it will make your life easier (as well as more stylish). We also believe that with a bit of creativity and effort it will become part of your lifestyle (if not yet). Here is how we did it: 1) We found the perfect size and shape 2) We found the perfect colour 3) We found the perfect finish 4) And then we stopped looking 5) It wasn’t hard at all….
Consider security and weather conditions when choosing a location
How do you pick a garden cabinet for your backyard? Searching for the best garden cabinet can be a pain, but here are some tips:
- Choose a container that can withstand being exposed to direct sunlight and keep stored items dry.
- Make sure the storage space is large enough to hold all your plants and crops at once.
- Look for one that has a good locking mechanism so it doesn’t become an expensive knock-off when you finally buy it.
- Consider whether you want it to be self-contained or look-at-me because there is no room for windows or doors on your property (these features make it more like an accessory).
- The best garden cabinets are made from stainless steel, which means they’ll last longer than any other metal type, and they can also be painted according to your home’s colour preferences (for example, if you have blue walls, you might paint it white).
Lockable outdoor storage cabinets are a great way to keep your garden tools close at hand (not to mention your gear, too!). They can be useful for both indoors and outdoors — at the same time. There are many different styles, but my favourite feature of the line of lockable units we use is their ability to use existing garden planters as the frame for one of the shelves. They are very strong and stable, and work very well.
The lockable cabinet system is a great example of what we’re trying to do with our product design — not only does it serve its main purpose effectively, it also helps drive product development toward something more complete (more features). By using existing garden planters as a frame for one of the shelves, we can add some extra functionality without having to build a new unit from scratch.
The above is an example of how our product design can make life easier for us in terms of functionality and/or ease-of-use.
Make sure the cabinet has a lockable door
It is a great time to be an outdoor storage enthusiast. There are now tens of thousands of options available, and they can be a lot cheaper than what you used to pay for a similar model from the local DIY store or hardware store. This article will look at some of the different types of lockable outdoor storage cabinets (also known as lockable tackle boxes) that are available today, and hopefully help you choose which one will work best for your needs.
Some of these systems have a locking mechanism attached to them, but most are not. This is because lockable outdoor storage cabinets have been designed with security in mind – either through their own security mechanism or through mechanical fasteners or bolts (which in many cases can be locked with keys). If you can’t rely on a keyed lock system then it’s probably not the right cabinet for you.
A good example is the LocknLock™ T-Box. It offers a high level of security, with an extremely strong multi-point locking mechanism that secures each individual piece individually so that you don’t need to worry about any other items getting lost along with it.
The T-Box is made from steel and has an aluminium finish to give it added strength and durability. It also comes with two metal handles both with rubber feet so that it doesn’t scratch your deck or bottom corner when being moved around (this doesn’t apply to all models however; see note below). A number of manufacturers offer this type of cabinet at competitive prices for small spaces; read on for more information about them.
Look for features that will make using the cabinet easier such as shelves and drawers
A garden shed is a space-saving tool that permits you to store and protect your plants, equipment and other outdoor items. In this post we look at some of the best garden sheds on the market.
All of these are made from solid wood, some are curved to provide a more natural appearance and all have the option of using stainless steel hooks (for those who prefer it).
